Receiving a message via the SMSLeopard platform

Early Beginning

Our story began in 2016. Back then, we were a team of three founding members; Eston Kimani, Racheal Kimani & Eutychus Towett. We had an ambitious dream of creating user-friendly communication platforms for businesses. We started operations in a shared office in Westlands, Nairobi on the 1st of March, 2016.

The first iteration of the smsleopard platform had served us and our clients well and had run its course. We now needed a faster, easier to use, and scalable platform that could meet our clients growing needs.

We began to build a new platform and after four (4) months of tireless designing, programming, documenting, testing, and bug fixing our new project was complete - or so we thought. That was on May 23rd of 2016. We excitedly began the process of migration to the second iteration of smsleopard.com, not knowing that we were going to encounter our biggest challenge yet.

We underestimated the complexity of the migration which led to a myriad of issues ranging from missing contacts, nil account balances, just to name a few. It was a botched launch and there was undeniable panic and backlash from our clients. Things were going downhill from here. It was a great inconvenience to our clients, who were unable to send out messages for 2 days. We had to think fast to salvage the situation and our Team Lead made the decision to redirect clients to the old platform.

It was one heck of a week, but we are so grateful for our clients who stuck with us during that period and were patient as we sorted out this quagmire. We had learned valuable lessons on how not to carry out a migration without proper preparation.

The second iteration underwent a total overhaul. The team was very deliberate on the approach of the development. In six (6) months, we had completed it and invited the users to interact with the new features. The experience was different this time and users eagerly tested the new features. All users had been successfully migrated to the new iteration by the 1st of December 2016. The launch was a success and the clients were very satisfied with the move.

Fast forward to today, our Brand is trusted by hundreds of businesses who use our products to connect with their customers. Individuals too, use the service for social engagements as well.
